AwareLabs Founder Paul Kenjora Mentoring At Startup Weekend
Published Feb. 4, 2014
On the weekend of August 10th, 2012, Northern Arizona Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (NACET) in Flagstaff, Arizona is putting on Startup Weekend. This is a 54 hour event that brings together ideas and talent to produce an entire startup in one weekend. Imagine 9 months of work compressed down into a few hours. At best someone will make millions of dollars, at worst, they'll make lifelong startup friends.
When Annette and Jeff asked me to mentor at the event I was flattered. AwareLabs had already been helping a few of the startups at NACET launch but this was an opportunity to share some first hand lessons learned with energetic early stage entrepreneurs. I hope to bring many pragmatic lessons to Startup Weekend from my past experiences at PayPal, Arkayne, BlogGlue, AwareLabs, Chinese Tea Kettles, GroupIt, and even TabHere.
I might even spend an hour or two Saturday morning launching an idea.
Having mentored the last startup weekend at CoHoots, I'm expecting lots of energy and some really great startups to emerge. If you've never been expect to meet many talented developers, designers, project managers, and inventors.
The Startup Weekend site explains the exact process in detail but in general its as serious or as fun as you want it to be.
I'm also a huge fan of Flagstaff and looking forward to the many excursions I've been hearing about. Flagstaff now has a ZipLine and a beer trail. The weather up there is amazing and the facility at NACET impressive. If you haven't already sign up for the event.
